Saturday, Jan. 26th will be our first day back to the farmers market in 2019. It's also our first time offering our organic pastured raised pork for sale. We raised two heritage pigs called "gloucestershire old spots (GOS)" last year on the farm. The GOS pigs are our favorite breed with their gentle personalities, hardiness, good foraging, and most importantly delicious meat! We fell in love with this breed on a trip to England, where they were originally developed back in the 1800's. They are affectionately know as an "orchard pig" and were selected as excellent foragers and grazers. These pigs are thrifty, able to make a living from pasture and agricultural by products, such as whey from cheese making, windfall apples in orchards, and the residue from pressing cider. And that is exactly what they gleaned from our farm their whole life!
The higher fat content of this pork keeps it succulent and juicy during cooking and you won't regret the rich flavor this imparts too. We hope you'll stop by market and pick up a cut or more to try...and yes we will have bacon!!
Other offerings for market include some cured shallots and garlic and dried flower bouquets and earrings! We didn't realize how many dried flowers we had tucked away for winter crafting and surprised ourselves with quite a few market bouquets. Pick one up to keep your vase happy, and home colorful, until the fresh ones come back this spring as tulips, daffodils, anemones, and ranunculus!
